A Rockie Mountain Autumn
Early October 2022
Our travels took us to the Columbia Valley in Southeastern British Columbia, staying in Fairmont. After five days there we drove north to Jasper and then back to Canmore to complete our 12 days away.
Smoke from the BC fires turned the mountains into featureless grey ghosts that ran jagged toward the sky. The drive north revealed the southern slopes of the Rockies devoid of snow, a sad and frightening way to see them. Fortunately, through the haze we could see some snow on the north facing slopes as we drove south again on the Icefields Parkway. Unusually for all the way into mid October, the leaves were still ablaze on the deciduous trees and larches in Canmore.
