A number of years ago I gleefully clambered up a small rise to descend a gravely beach on the west coast of Washington State. Eagerly I raised my camera to capture the incoming tide of the Pacific Ocean.
Instead, it caught me. A wave overtook me on that beach, sending me to my hands and knees underwater, tugged into the ocean by the powerful undertow.
But all that is another story.
There are lots of stories here ...

AWARD WINNING SHORT STORY!
In July 2022 I entered a short story contest. We had 10 days to write and had to follow specified story criteria. I could choose from one of five characters to include (I chose a janitor), from five different story contexts (I chose an anniversary), and include the mandatory element of a wooden mask.
From over 500 entries, I finished in the top ten!

Published NovelsAn Incoming Tide is the story of a young psychologist coping with emergent memories of her dysfunctional childhood. And if that is not tough enough, she has to do so while coping with other tragic happenings as her life unfolds.
See if you can figure out the who-dun-it and be satisfied with the why-dun-it of this mystery . A Greater Good. is a dystopian tale of mental health practice 40 years in the future. Therapy sessions are provided by an avatar in a virtual reality room powered by artificial intelligence. If that is not human enough for you, this society provides a Paraclete to come alongside you in your troubles, a delightful human companion.
Unfortunately along the way there is a tragic backstory, a love triangle and a murder. Sigh.
Every time I read, I review. My Wilton Reads will provide enough description of the book so you can figure out if it might be a fit for you. I also include my own subjective response to the book.
It's an eclectic mix, both fiction and non-fiction. |
Short FictionShort fiction is great. You just grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a ten or fifteen minute read.
Check out the links on my Hmmm... page. Blogs Imagine I spent over four decades on the front lines of the human condition.
My blog reflects on my two careers, first as a psychologist and then as a writer. This blog gets you inside of the mind of a writer, the pauses and the puzzles. Oh, and there are a few ah-ha moments too! A new blog post appears mid-month. Previous blogs are clickable in an archive. I keep my blog posts to 5 minute reads. The travel blog features photos and short reflections from two Viking cruises ... and more to come . PhotographyDo you like that image up top? I took that just south of Tofino on Vancouver Island. Check out more photograph in a slide show of the Canadian Rockies and the travel blogs for a couple of Viking river cruises and a Viking ocean cruise. Oh, and there's a photo essay of an autumn trip to Montreal and the Quebec Laurentian mountains.

How about some original keyboard jazz?
|
Most Saturday afternoons I play live keyboard jazz at a coffee shop on main street in Camrose Alberta.
I have decided that at this stage of my life I don't need to play anyone else's songs. So all of my jazz is original. Join me at 12:30 to 1:30 and 2:30 to 3:30 Saturday afternoons. There's great coffee, lunch, snacks and ice cream to go with the music. |
